When to be seen
Come in if there is:
- Spreading redness, or a red streak up the limb
- A bite that is increasingly painful after day two
- Pus, or a bite that has turned into an abscess
- Fever after being bitten
- A centipede or scorpion sting, which can be severely painful
- Widespread hives, facial swelling or any breathing difficulty
Breathing difficulty or facial swelling after a sting is an allergic reaction and is an emergency — call 1669. A bite that becomes a hot, spreading red area is cellulitis and needs antibiotics the same day.
