Suture Removal in Bang Tao
You were stitched up somewhere else — a clinic in Patong, a hospital back home, maybe a hospital in another country entirely — and now the date has come around while you are in Phuket. Suture removal in Bang Tao takes a few minutes, costs very little, and does not require any of the paperwork from wherever the stitches were put in.
You do not need to go back to whoever stitched you
This is the most common worry and it is unfounded. Any competent clinic can remove sutures. We do not need the original notes, the original doctor, or a referral. Bring the wound and, if you happen to have it, whatever paperwork you were given.
If you are unsure how many stitches went in, we count them. It matters, because a missed suture left under healed skin causes a stubborn little infection weeks later.
When stitches should come out
Timing is set by the body part, not by how the wound looks:
- Face: 5 days
- Scalp and neck: 7 days
- Arms and hands: 10 days
- Trunk and back: 10 to 14 days
- Legs, knees and feet: 14 days
Too early and the wound can pull apart. Too late and the suture marks become permanent dots either side of the scar. If you are not sure of the date, come in and we will judge it by how the wound has healed.
What it feels like
Very little. The nurse cleans the area, lifts each knot with forceps, cuts one side and draws the thread through. Most people describe a small tug. No anaesthetic is needed and there is no injection.
Removing eight or ten stitches takes about five minutes. Afterwards the wound is cleaned and covered with a light dressing, and you are shown how to support the scar for the next few weeks.
If the wound is not ready
Sometimes we open the dressing and the wound is not healed enough to take the stitches out. That is not a failure, and forcing it would be a mistake. In that case we remove alternate sutures to release tension, re-dress it, and bring you back in a few days.
If the wound looks infected, the priority changes. Spreading redness, yellow discharge, heat and increasing pain mean cellulitis needs treating before or alongside removal.
Looking after the scar afterwards
The wound is closed but not strong. It reaches only a fraction of its final strength at the moment the stitches come out, and keeps building for months.
- No swimming for two more days after removal
- Avoid stretching or straining the area for two weeks
- Keep the scar out of direct sun for six months, or use high-factor sunblock on it — sun on a fresh scar darkens it permanently
- Massage the scar gently with a plain moisturiser once healed, which softens it over time
If the area was on a foot or knee, take the first days gently. Scars over joints reopen more often than anywhere else, usually on a beach walk that felt fine at the time.
Frequently asked questions
How much does suture removal cost?
It is one of the least expensive things we do — a short nurse appointment. If the wound needs re-dressing or turns out to be infected, that is charged separately and quoted first.
Do I need the paperwork from the clinic that stitched me?
No. It helps if you have it, but we can remove sutures without any documentation at all.
Can I have them removed at my hotel?

Does it hurt?
