Wound Dressing in Bang Tao
A graze from a scooter, a cut foot from a rock at Layan, a blister that has burst and turned angry — none of it seems worth a doctor until day three, when the edges go red and it starts to throb. Getting a wound cleaned and covered properly is the single cheapest way to avoid a real problem. Wound dressing in Bang Tao is a five-minute job that can save you a week of your holiday.
Why wounds go wrong faster in Phuket
Heat and humidity keep skin damp, and damp skin under a soggy plaster is where bacteria do well. Sea water and sand carry organisms that dry climates do not, and pool chemicals soften the wound edges. On top of that, most travellers keep using the wound — walking on a cut foot, swimming with a graze, riding with a bandaged elbow.
The result is that minor injuries here turn into cellulitis far more often than they would at home.
What a proper dressing involves
Cleaning the wound out is the part that matters, and it is the part people skip. We wash it thoroughly with sterile solution, remove grit, sand and dead tissue, and check how deep it actually goes — grazes often hide a deeper cut in one corner.
Then it is dressed with a material suited to the wound. A weeping graze needs something absorbent. A dry, shallow cut needs something that keeps a little moisture in. A wound over a joint needs a dressing that will not pull apart when you bend. We also check whether your tetanus cover is current.
Daily dressing changes while you travel
Most wounds need re-dressing every one to three days. You are welcome to come in for each change, and many people do it on the way to breakfast. If you would rather manage it yourself, we will send you away with the right materials and show you how to do it.
If you had stitches put in elsewhere, we will take over the dressings and handle the suture removal when the time comes.
Signs a wound is infected
Come back the same day if you notice:
- Redness spreading outward from the wound, especially in a line up the limb
- Increasing pain after day two, when it should be easing
- Yellow or green discharge, or a bad smell
- The skin around it feeling hot and tight
- A fever, or feeling generally unwell
Redness spreading in a streak up the arm or leg is the one to act on immediately. That is infection moving, and it needs antibiotics today rather than tomorrow.
Keeping a wound dry on a beach holiday
This is the awkward part, and pretending otherwise helps nobody. A wound that is soaked daily in sea or pool water will not heal on schedule.
Waterproof dressings work for a short swim, not for an afternoon in the sea. If you have a fresh wound, stay out of the water for the first forty-eight hours at least. Sand is the bigger problem — it works under the edge of a dressing and grinds. Cover, rinse with clean fresh water after the beach, and change the dressing once you are dry.
Frequently asked questions
How much does wound dressing cost?
A dressing change is charged as a short nurse visit plus materials, and it is one of the cheapest things we do. The first visit costs more because it includes the doctor assessing and cleaning the wound.
Can you re-dress a wound treated at another clinic?
Yes, that is very common. Bring any paperwork you were given if you have it, but we can take over without it.
Do I need a tetanus shot?
If your last tetanus vaccination was more than five years ago and the wound was dirty, deep, or caused by metal, then yes. We can give it during the same visit — see travel vaccinations.
Can a nurse come to my hotel to change the dressing?
Yes. For anyone struggling to walk, a doctor hotel visit can cover the daily change across Bang Tao, Laguna and Layan.
Should I let a wound dry out or keep it covered?
Keep it covered. The old advice about letting wounds breathe is wrong. A lightly moist, covered wound heals faster and scars less than one left to form a hard scab in the open air.
